Though departing from the source material Empty Though departing from the source material

Though departing from the source material, Ron Kovic's stirring chronicle of his Vietnam experience, this film is a good companion piece to Oliver Stone's Oscar-winner Platoon, showcasing star Tom Cruise in one of his most powerful dramatic performances。 A forceful and admirably heartfelt performance by Tom Cruise galvanizes this picture, which should be more powerful than it is considering the darkness and fullness of the emotions at its center. As deeply felt as Platoon, as graphic and unrelenting as Salvador, but it's less manipulative than the former and more dramatically integrated than the latter, because Cruise anchors the movie. Oliver Stone (Best Director Oscar) directs this film about individuals whose traditional patriotism is ambushed by the Vietnam War and reborn in political protest. f this is a four star film, you can rest assured that three of those stars come from the balls-out bravura of Tom Cruise in the lead role. Stone has found in Cruise the ideal actor to anchor the movie with simplicity and strength.
